Special needs

Western ridged mussels are found in cold creeks and streams. They are filter-feeders with long lifespans.

Limiting factors

Water withdrawal, diversion, and changes in hydrological regimes can adversely affect western ridged mussels. Contamination, sedimentation, nutrient enrichment, and other impacts to water quality also threaten this species.
